Hotel Špica Laško is standing on the site of the first hotel called Hum Inn in Laško. First owners were  the Šavsi landlords, who sold it in 1862. The new owner added to the inn, which had its foundations in the 16th century and renamed it the Horiak Hotel. Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was the only hotel in Laško (apart from the Terme). It was the center of social life in Laško and the surrounding area. Sunday promenades passed by it, it hosted theatrical performances, various assemblies, dances and parties. In 1901 the hotel changed hands again and was renamed the Hotel Henke. In 1985, the old hotel was demolished and a new one built. The main investor was the Laško brewery. The hotel was in operation until September 2018.  In April 2019, the hotel became the property of a family-run company that has been in the business for 30 years. The hotel was renovated and renamed to Hotel Špica Laško.

MUNICIPALITY LASKO

The period of the first Slavic settlements in the area (around 600 AD) is documented by numerous place names. Laško, Lahomšek, Lahomno, Laška vas, Lahov grabe, Lahov potok, Lahomnica indicate that the Slavic-speaking newcomers to the area encountered the earlier inhabitants, who were called Lahi because of their Latin dialect.

The first record of Laško dates back to 1147, and the first official mention of Laško dates back to 1182, when the Duke of Styria, Otakar VI of Traungau, donated various revenues to the Žička Monastery, mentioning his property in Laško several times.

After the Traungavci, the estates were acquired by the Austrian Dukes of Babenberg, for whom the Lachian manor was of great importance due to its exceptional transport location. Lepold VI Babenbergian had a stone bridge built across the Sava (today’s Zidani Most), rebuilt the Carthusian monastery in Jurkloštru and elevated Laško to a market square (1277). At that time, Laško was also the seat of the regional court. After the Babenbergers died out, King Ottokar II of Bohemia won the inheritance dispute, but the Habsburgs soon acquired the territory.
